The Philippine Game Platform Reported on the Removal of Malicious Cryptographic Code from the League of Legends Client

According to an official statement on July 11, engineers removed the Coinhive cryptocurrency code used by the community of the League of Legends (LoL) multiplayer video game on the Philippine Garena platform.

For the first time, malware detection was revealed on July 9, when one of the platform users published a message in the LoL community.

As reported in the official statement, the recent problems with Coinhive were associated with “unauthorized modification of the League of Legends PH client lobby where a certain javascript code was inserted.” Representatives Garena reported that the software does not cause any harm to user devices, except for “increased CPU usage.”

The Singapore company Garena was founded in 2009 and provides platforms for multiplayer games, such as League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth.

According to official data, in early 2018, the activity of scammers and malware in the cryptocurrency area increased by more than 600%. It is worth noting that Monero mining Coinhive is now particularly active on the Internet.
